Japanese Schools

When I studied Japanese in Japan I made a huge mistake with the school I chose. I wanted to learn spoken Japanese. I remember the level check and interview going very well. Then it was all down hill form there.  I ended up  getting stuck in an advanced to intermediate class that focused on level 1 and 2 of the JLPT.   I was spending hundreds of dollars a week on classes that weren’t helping me with my goal. I wanted to speak Japanese, but I was just learning grammar and kanji.  It went on for 6 months. The school was my sponsor for my Visa. I had to stay with the school.

If you are paying for online lessons or are taking Japanese classes keep in mind you are a customer and paying money. Your teacher should be helping you to learn Japanese. A great teacher should have you speaking conversational Japanese in a few short months. They should be focuses on your learning needs and not on what they know.  Don’t be afraid to change teachers or find alternative methods if you don’t click with your teacher.  You, as the learner,  are more important than them. If you come across a teacher who doesn’t listen to you  and is high-handed in with their teaching… fire them.

If you are a beginner and are wanting to save hundreds of dollars on lessons I recommend you take a look at Rocket Japanese. There program is the ideal online course for the beginner. The program assumes you know no Japanese. With 14 hours of downloaded lessons it is a worthwhile investment.
